Genres: Crime, Drama, Thriller
Director: Stanley M. Brooks
My Rating: Still not emotionally recovered
Around two days ago, I watched the movie 'Perfect Sisters' and loved it. So I thought I might as well review it for you.
The trailer says it's a horror movie. Not even close. As you know, genres are not my strongest point, but this is more of a drama than a horror movie. Yes, the drowning scene is a little disturbing, but it's not about that.
If you're interested in the real effect of alcoholism and abuse on children, you should definitely watch this movie. It's based on a true story and even though the camerawork isn't as smooth as in big Hollywood productions and sometimes the close-ups are a little weirdly timed, this is worth watching.
The story is about Beth and Sandra who have had to deal with their mother's alcoholism and her abusive boyfriends since they were little. Their mother is incapable of taking care of their little brother and Sandra (blond one) takes care of her younger siblings and her mother. When yet another boyfriend crosses all the lines and their mother loses her job again, the girls decide it's enough. Mom must die.
So it may sound like a 'fun' thing in modern society. "They plot to kill their mother." But this is literally death serious. Can you imagine being desperate enough to murder your own mother?
Frankly, I cried through half this movie, because if you see what these people go through... Well, I feel more sorry for them than for their mom. The ending is heartbreaking (no spoilers) and the acting is quite good.
If you like some drama and a pretty dark movie filled with some serious subjects, you should watch it. But more sensitive people might find the abuse too graphic and the murder too shocking. You have been adviced.
If you're interested in watching the movie, you can find it on YouTube easily.
