Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Book Review

In the wise words of the Screenjunkies: "The one everyone hates." With an average rating of 4,32 stars on Goodreads, which would be awesome for every other book series, it is the least liked book in the Harry Potter franchise. I actually liked this one a lot.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

The conflict and the plot twists and just everything in this masterful piece of fiction. I can't even begin to describe the complete awesomeness of these novels. Even though I already know this will not be my favorite in the series, I did not hate it whatsoever. I feel like this book made me feel the right things, even though they weren't always nice.

Again, no real summary. If you haven't read the series yet, I'd spoil the first one. But honestly, I assume you've already read it.

Rating:
Still 5 stars

Spoiler section starts here. ENEMIES OF THE HEIR, BEWARE.

Characters

I hated Gilderoy Lockhart. It took me about two conversations between him and Harry to make me want to kill him myself. Dobby is such an adorable character and his story really touched me. The story of Moaning Myrtle I found super interesting. And everyone we already knew and loved is still alive, so it's all okay.

Plot

Some things about the plot I liked, some I had difficulties with. The way the mystery of the Chamber unfolded was amazing and I did not see it coming. J.K. Rowling writes her books in a way that makes you realize something at the right moment, and the way she ties plot points together shows a lot of talent and hard work. For example, the phoenix tears. First of all, I loved Fawkes. If the magical book fairy ever comes to visit me, I will demand him as my fictional pet. Even when Fawkes sits on Harry's shoulder and cried, I didn't realize that the tears would heal him. So I was just tearing up myself, even though I knew Harry wouldn't die, and waiting for a miracle. It only hit me when Voldemort said it out loud. I don't know whether this makes the book very good or me very stupid, but I liked it. Same with the snake during the duel. I was sitting in the hallway of my school wondering why the snake backed away, even though I had finished the first book only days ago. Again, I might just be very slow, but not all books do this so incredibly well. The time it takes to get to Hogwarts frustrated me, though. I just couldn't wait to be there again.

The world

Do I really have to say this? I adore the magical world. It's so complicated and overly detailed and has such a rich history. There are always things you don't know yet, and that makes for amazing plot twists. There seems to be something behind every single person and every single object in that castle.

These books always leave me with nothing to say. I love them, and there's just not much to add.
Except for this picture, because it's cute
